VOWEL is a collaboration between Swedish designers Beau Bertens and Eline Ceelen, who both have skills in the graphic and textile design field.
This duo’s designs are primarily based on concept, material research, textures and the desire to be almost within reach of the “unknown”. They create semi-functional “jewelry-objects” whose vagueness and strange reality sit somewhere between abstraction and representation.
VOWEL challenges the formatted perception of the individual and forces the onlooker to use his own sense of free will.
“One cannot understand natural phenomena only by science, but also needs to feel emotionally attracted to them” they say on their website.
The two designers believe that what we believe to be reality/ the norm is based on our knowledge today. However, they ask themselves: “what do we really know?”
VOWEL has set about building an aesthetic system, a new visual language that must only be interpreted on an individual level controlled by shape, material and content.
“The interpretation of this system lies in the eye of the beholder.”
